Sunday Morning Adult Ed - Jewish Perspectives on Climate Change (Part II) with Dr. David Shyovitz
Sunday, April 18, 2021 • 6 Iyar 5781
10:30 AM - 12:00 PMPlease join us via Zoom (see link below) this second of a two-session program taught by Dr. David Shyovitz on the Jewish Perspectives on Climate Change. Awareness of the perils of climate change is a recent, unprecedented development--but the Jewish tradition has long grappled with the theological import of the natural world and has developed insights and doctrines that may provide guidance to modern day environmentalists. This course will survey some key thinkers and traditions and will reflect upon the modern-day implications of pre-modern Jewish texts.
Dr. David Shyovitz is Associate Professor of History at Northwestern University, and has a joint appointment at the Crown Center for Jewish and Israel Studies. His research and teaching focus on pre-modern Jewish cultural and intellectual history, with a particular emphasis on Jewish-Christian relations. He is the author of the recently published book A Remembrance of His Wonders: Nature and the Supernatural in Medieval Ashkenaz.
