Please join us as we screen Selma (2014) via Zoom. In light of recent events that have zeroed in on America's persistent and deadly racial injustice, Selma (2014), directed by Ava Duvernay, seems timely. The film tells the story of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, led by Dr. Martin Luther King, John Lewis, and other prominent civil rights leaders. Released just before the fiftieth anniversary of the march, the film made Ms. Duvernay the first black female director to have her film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
From the Roger Ebert film site: "This is an emotional movie that aims to anger, sadden and inspire viewers, sometimes in the same scene. Selma takes no prisoners and, while it welcomes moviegoers of all hues, it has no intention of sugarcoating its horrors for politically correct comforting."
