High Holiday Food Drive

Continuing our congregation’s tradition, we will be collecting non-perishable food items and practical paper goods to be donated to the New Trier Food Pantry which relies heavily on Hakafa’s annual High Holiday Food Drive to restock the shelves for around 350 households.

We will distribute grocery bags at Rosh Hashanah services (September 15 and 16). Please fill and return them to the lobby of Winnetka Congregational Church on Erev Yom Kippur (September 24) or Yom Kippur Day (September 25). We will load bags into cars and deliver them immediately following the Yom Kippur Family Service, around 2:30 p.m.

The items most needed at this time are:

Cookies, crackers, and granola bars
Cooking oil, condiments and salad dressings
Pasta and pasta sauce
Peanut butter and jelly
Brown and white rice
Canned fruit and canned tuna
Personal hygiene items (mouthwash, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner)

Please note the expiration dates on all donations. Expired items cannot be distributed by the pantry.

If you will not be with us in-person but would still like to contribute to our High Holiday Food Drive, you are welcome to order non-perishable food online and have it shipped directly to the New Trier Food Pantry at the New Trier Township Office in Winnetka (739 Elm Street, Winnetka, IL 60093).

Volunteers are also needed to help with delivery to the New Trier Food Pantry on September 25. If you are able to help, please indicate so on your ticket request form or contact Danielle Wylie or Cindy Hamilton.
