National Reform Movement Call-In Day
in support of the Dream Act of 2017
Monday, November 6, is National Reform Movement Call-In Day in support of the Dream Act of 2017. Actions you can take to make a difference:
- Call Rep. Duckworth and ask her to support the bill (may use script #1).
- Call bill sponsors, Senator Durbin, Rep Schakowsky, and Rep. Schneider to thank them for their support (may use script #2). All senators and representatives may be reached through the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121. Click here if you would like to use scripts.
- After you’ve made your calls, please email Peggy Slater at PeggySlater@msn.com and let her know whom you’ve called so that she and the RAC can measure our impact.
Why It’s Important: If Congress does not act, all 800,000 DACA recipients will be in danger of deportation when DACA ends in March, 2018.
Maximizing our impact by working with Religious Action Center (RAC) of the Reform Movement: Congregation Hakafa is one of the RAC’s 89 Brit Olam congregations. This means we have pledged to work on the Urgency Now initiative, which focuses on 3 major social justice campaigns: Immigrant Justice, Transgender Rights, and Criminal Justice Reform.
Hakafa's Immigration Justice Committee is committed to educating itself and others about the complexities and nuances of US immigration policy and Jewish perspectives on it. The committee explores ways to be supportive of sensible comprehensive immigration reform.
If you would like to be involved in Hakafa's Immigration Justice Committee, please contact Peggy Slater.
