Hebrew Language Program
Hebrew Language Program
Hakafa’s Hebrew curriculum focuses on language acquisition with emphasis on reading fluency, basic conversation, prayer mastery, and applications to Torah study and Jewish life.
Hebrew School meets at the Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe) on Tuesday afternoons from 4:15 to 5:30 PM.
- In order to build our Hebrew School community, each week all students will participate in our Hebrew School worship service with Rabbi Elder.
- In addition to the weekly worship service:
- Students in Grades 3-6 will be grouped by grade level and will be taught by our staff of expert Hebrew teachers for 50 minutes each Tuesday.
Students in Grades 3-6 will be grouped by grade level and will be taught by our staff of expert Hebrew teachers for 50 minutes each Tuesday
Students in Grade 7 will meet to study Torah with Rabbi Elder for 50 minutes every other Tuesday. The remaining Tuesdays will be left available for our 7th graders to assist with our younger students and, if needed, meet with Rabbi Elder to prepare for their upcoming b’nai mitzvah service. (Schedule to follow.)
B'nai Mitzvah Prep:
In addition to Hebrew School, students preparing for b’nai mitzvah will work with a private tutor.
- B’nai mitzvah tutoring fees are paid directly to the b’nai mitzvah tutor by the student’s family.
- An informational meeting about becoming a b’nai mitzvah at Hakafa has been scheduled for October 1, 2023 at 12:15 PM at the Takiff Center.
- Please contact Bibi Patt or Rabbi Elder for information about selecting a tutor.

Hebrew study is an integral part of our educational program. Knowledge of Hebrew increases a student's ability to understand and feel connected to Judaism and to the Jewish people.
Students in kindergarten through second grade participate in a "Hebrew Readineses Program" on Sunday mornings during Religious School. Students learn blessings, songs, and Hebrew words for Jewish symbols and concepts (i.e. mezuzah, siddur, tzedakah) and also begin learning the Hebrew alphabet.
Students in third through seventh grades participate in our mid-week Hebrew program. Classes meet on Tuesday afternoons from 4:15 to 6:00 p.m. Upon completion of the seventh grade Hebrew program, students lead a service at their graduation ceremony in May.
