Join Hakafa friend Martina Gillen as she leads us through the use of lore in Jewish practice and learning. The class will meet via Zoom on four consecutive Thursdays. Topics to be covered:
July 11 - The Seder and the Making of our People: Stories as Memory and Experience
July 18 - Stories in the Talmud: How Jewish Law and Lore Overlap
July 25 - The World of Midrash: The Parable as Distinctly Jewish Literature
August 1 - Mystical Storytelling: Fantasy and the Making of Chasidut
Martina Gillen is a Senior Lecturer of Law at the University of West of England in Bristol, England. She holds a doctoral degree from Queen's University Belfast and previously held lectureships at the University of Reading and Oxford Brookes University. Her current research focuses on Intellectual Property and IT Law. She is an avid learner of Jewish texts and practice and carries a wealth of knowledge about our people and traditions.
