NOTE: This series will take the place of Adult Ed on November 12, 19, and December 3 and is for members of Hakafa only.

All Hakafa adults are invited to participate either in-person or via Zoom and join Rabbi Elder for a three-part primer on the Israel/Hamas Conflict. Come early for a cup of coffee and to schmooze, and grab a bagel at noon before leaving.

We hope to see you at one or all of these sessions.

Sunday, November 12
What are the roots of the Israel/Hamas conflict? What is meant by "occupation"? Are the Jews in Israel colonizers? What is the Palestinian claim to the land? Is Israel committing genocide? What is Hamas? How did Gaza become so contentious? Where does the blame in this conflict lie?

Many of us continue to be lost in the swirl of the Israel/Hamas war and don't have the words or the tools to discuss or even process these events. Join Rabbi Elder as he helps us navigate, in plain language, the layers of complexity and hyperbole in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Please note: The session will not be a discussion or a debate. Nor will it be a scholarly presentation. Rabbi Elder will relay information as he understands it and try to answer questions that people may have.

Sunday, November 19
This session will explore: What are the origins of the recent spate of anti-Jewish activity on American college campuses? How can we help our young family members in high school and college understand and maneuver unfriendly and aggressive spaces? How can they address false narratives on social media and daily aggressions in real life? Why do campus administrations seem so unwilling to stand up to anti-Jewish rhetoric and actions? What can we all do about it/

Sunday, December 3
At this session, Rabbi Elder will speak to the ongoing debate about anti-Zionism and anti-Judaism. He will also discuss possible next steps in the Middle East; give suggestions for how to talk about issues of Israel/Palestine with non-Jews, with family members with whom you are disagreeing – sometimes vehemently - about the conflict, and with each other; offer thoughts on how to navigate uncomfortable or fearful spaces both on campus and off; and, answer questions and clarify points that grew out of his first two sessions.
