Shavout This Year

This year, Shavuot begins at sundown on Tuesday, June 11, 2024,
and ends on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at sundown.

Please help us celebrate Shavuot at any/all of these observances:

Tikkun Leil Shavuot

Our Shavuot celebration begins at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 with a "late night" study party at the North Shore United Methodist Church. There is a custom on Shavuot to read the Book of Ruth, so we will enjoy an in-person study and discussion on this powerful, inspiring woman. Please bring a favorite snack to share with the group. Pajamas are welcome!

Early Morning Tikkun and Sunrise Minyan

Our Shavuot celebration continues early on Wednesday morning, June 12. We are told to study the entire night of Shavuot until sunrise. So, we will gather at 3:30 a.m. at the North Shore United Methodist Church for an hour-long study session. We will then walk to Glencoe Beach for a sunrise minyan. Minyan will begin at 4:50 a.m.

Jewish tradition tells us that four times during the year, in addition to the anniversary of the death of a loved one, we are to recall the memories of those who have died. These four times, known as yizkor (remembrance), coincide with major holidays on the Jewish calendar. Shavuot is a day on which yizkor is recited.

If you will be joining us via Zoom, go to this link for a copy of our Shavuot Yizkor Siddur (prayer book). You should either print it out ahead of time or have it up on another screen during our service.
