Shabbat Shechina: Drag Queen Story Hour
Saturday, September 9, 2023 • 23 Elul 5783
11:00 AM - 12:00 PMLocation will be provided after sign-upPlease join Congregation Hakafa and Emanuel Congregation outdoors in Chicago for a special Shabbat Drag Queen Story Hour!
The morning will include stories read by one of Chicago's fabulous Drag Queens, songs led by Rabbis Elder and Calamaro, and a special craft project facilitated by Mandy Herlich, Emanuel’s Director of Education. Of course, challah and snacks will be provided, too!
This program is aimed at children 0-8 and their grown-ups, siblings, and friends, but families of all ages are welcome. It will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, we will email you with updates.
To participate, sign-up here: https://tinyurl.com/DQSHSept23. Chicago park location will be provided after sign-up.
Drag Queen Story Hour celebrates reading through the art of drag helping children develop empathy, learn about gender diversity, and tap into their own creativity. It can also be lifechanging and lifesaving for LGBTQ kids and teens, those with LGBTQ family members, or anyone who feels different because of their identity and may not otherwise see themselves reflected in the broader culture. The Shechina is a feminine manifestation of the Divine and is known as the Sabbath Queen.
