Martina Gillen: The Life and Undeath of Elijah the Prophet
How did the lonely zealot who called down drought and fire become one of the most beloved figures in Jewish liturgy, invited to every bris, longed for in every home and celebrated in innumerable folktales? The answer is in the story of the life and undeath of the prophet Elijah - the man who stood alone at Sinai. This session explores our traditions around the prophet from Tanach to today.
.
Martina Gillen is a former Senior Lecturer of Law at the University of West of England in Bristol, England. She holds a doctoral degree from Queen's University Belfast and previously held lectureships at the University of Reading and Oxford Brookes University. Her current research focuses on Intellectual Property and IT Law. She is an avid learner of Jewish texts and practice and carries a wealth of knowledge about our people and traditions.
